Within the confines of the freelance world I have also held various positions of Properties Manager/Designer and Properties Assistant. That job would be to consult or assist with the Designer, Director, Point of Contact and pin-point what the show or event needs might be, how they would be used and then shop or construction contracted items.
Often these needs can be met with local or online shopping, more often an item would need to be altered for the needed result. Photoshop and Illustrator, printing to scale, various glues and adhesives, spray paint, craft supplies, sewing or reconstruction are among the skills needed to accomplish a good result.
